Omg this sounds really dumb but I figured there should be a thread about happy things regarding the lgbtqia+ community so that maybe people would get hope from it or something? we could share good experiences that made us happy like people standing up for lgbt+ people or whatever uwu
well i guess since im starting the thread I'll share? ? uh i just started college this fall and while i live in kentucky (aka stereotypically homophobic state) my hometown is the biggest city in kentucky and it's fairly liberal and theres a huge pride festival every year so theres usually not any real issues with lgbt stuff there but my college is like near the tennessee/kentucky border and its in a smaller town so i was kinda worried about how people would react to lgbt issues and stuff but i got down here and a lot of people are super accepting!! everybody in this town is so nice and friendly and idk its super cool!!! they have an alliance here and theyre super concerned about lgbt safety!!! and they even particularly mentioned wanting transgender students to feel comfortable while theyre here when they were talking about it so it made me really happy!!! and theyre currently working on making all the residential colleges lgbt safe places. the res building my best friend lives in the first safe res building on campus but they're working on mine i think at the moment and the university bookstore is a safe place and idk i havent really run into anyone that's expressed any homophobic feelings so!!!!!!
(sweats) i hope u all dont think this thread is stupid omfg

no way, this is a great thread idea! thanks so much for making the first thread in this forum, i was actually worried no one would know what to post in here haha...
i don't really care who knows that i'm queer irl, but i've always been stealth about my trans status. (when i identified as ftm it felt more pressing to me that i keep everything under wraps i suppose, but i'm still choosy about who i'll tell that i'm genderfluid.) i came out to almost all of my teachers last year because i felt like i needed to tell SOMEBODY, and although their responses varied (one just responded with "well that's your choice" lmfao) they were all supportive and promised that they wouldn't share that information with anybody else. a few of them also told me that they would make sure that their classrooms were a safe environment for me. i appreciated it a lot and was surprised by how positive they were about it! i have to say i don't think there was ever a situation in any of those classes for the rest of the year that got gross and upsetting about trans stuff.

and thats really cool uwu my boyfriend is ftm and he's fairly open about it on like tumblr and stuff and he lives in a really not accepting town so he has to be really careful about who he tells but most of his friends know and use the right pronouns and stuff so im really happy for him and hes going to college next fall and hes planning to go to this school in atlanta which is super lgbt friendly from what i hear and im super excited for him omg but im really glad your teachers did that for you i cant imagine being in that situation

aaa this si rly cute ok #food i volunteer at an LGBTQIA centre and as i mentioned in the shoutbox, i made a powerpoint for that centre. on the powerpoint i had a slide for asexuality and noted that october 20th - 26th and when i showed it to my supervisor she shouted 'happy asexual awareness week' and later left the centre to pick up some stuff. i stayed and talked w ppl who came in and later she came back with a package of cupcakes and said happy asexual awareness week to me (she knows im ace) and it was rly rly sweet i wanted to cry. i gave everyone at th centre a cupcake and it made my whole day

This is a good thread yesss.
Hmmm ... positivesss ... well, I guess what's super positive right now is that I've (finally) been able to go to a gender clinic (with the goal of being formally diagnosed with GID so I can transition ASAP)
It's been really good for me, to be able to talk with people that GET IT ... and not feel like people don't believe me/dont respect me.

positive experiences? my boyfriend of almost 3 years is super supportive of me and bought me an underworks binder (which barely works even sized right because my ribcage is really wide and my chest is kinda large ugh ugh) and comes to pride events with me and it's just great because nobody else is NEARLY as supportive as he is.
he's also a feminist supporter and far leftist like i am so he's like my biggest ally in every regard. ovo

When I came out to my mom about being pansexual, all she responded with was "... I could have sworn you were bisexual before?! But thanks for keeping me updated, cupcake!" I have never laughed at another human's facial expression so hard before omg, my mom's face was priceless -- a mix between "well no dip, dummy" and "wait, I didn't realize sexuality is fluid but ah yes you are still young, small child of mine, so it all makes sense yay for being a good mom A++++ me"
Took me a while to find out that I was pan (thinking I was bi before and no one I know had a problem with it), and when I told my friends, one of them was like "... OH MY GOOOSH ME TOO! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE ~smashing hug~" idk it was just really fun and happy both those times. ;w; Man I love my family and friends.

Rainbows. Rainbows are pretty cool thing. Also there's a an LGBTA group in my school I've helped out with which is pretty awesome because it's Maine and everyone just assumes we're rednecks/Canada. Portland is really liberal but my area is a really small community so I think it's great that we have that.
